Controlling Legionella in Cooling Towers

Objectives

By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  • Describe what legionella is, and how it multiplies
  • Identify water systems that could be sources for legionella
  • State the route of infection and have knowledge of individual susceptibility
  • Understand basic water treatment terms
  • Have an insight into water treatment of cooling systems
  • Understand the legal implication of being the Responsible Person
  • Be able to maintain, a quality legionellosis record keeping system for cooling towers
  • Recognise the need for corrective action control
  • Be aware of legionella risk assessment findings and setting up inspection, monitoring and corrective control programs
  • Who Should Attend?
  • Managers who are responsible for overseeing Health and Safety procedures, supervisors of staff operating cooling towers and staff responsible for regular actions and records concerning legionella prevention in cooling systems.
